15 DAYS EAST AFRICAN HIGHLIGHTS (T18)


Day 1: Nairobi

Arrival in Nairobi, airport transfer to hotel.

Day 2: Nairobi / Masai Mara

07:30 hotel pick up and drive to Masai Mara game reserve, driving through the picturesque Rift Valley, with its awe-inspiring vistas. Game viewing as we enter the park on our way to lodge for lunch. After lunch, first game drive, looking out for lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalos, gazelles, bongos, cheetahs, leopards, rhinos and other plains game.

Day 3: Masai Mara

Whole day game spotting in the Masai Mara reserve, which is the natural extension of the famous Serengeti national park in northern Tanzania. Optional excursions include a visit to a Masai Village or hot air balloon ride which departs at 06:00 and ends with champagne breakfast on the plains.

Day 4: Masai Mara / Lake Nakuru

After breakfast leave for Lake Nakuru national park, world-famous for its concentration of millions of pink flamingos. After lunch, game drive. Common spots here include the waterbuck, leopard, buffalo, eland, Rothschild giraffe, bushbuck, gazelle, etc. We’ll also visit the Rhino Sanctuary. Relax in the evening, overlooking the lake.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru / Amboseli

After breakfast, we depart for Amboseli national park, driving leisurely up the Rift Valley escarpment with its breath-taking panoramas. Lunch will be at the famous Nairobi Carnivore restaurant, renowned for its succulent grilled steaks, including game meat. After lunch, we continue to Amboseli, game viewing as we enter the park. Relax in the evening overlooking Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.

Day 6: Amboseli / Arusha – Lake Manyara

Early breakfast and departure for the Kenya – Tanzania border, with game tracking en route. Drop off at Namanga border where we exchange vehicles. Proceed to Arusha for lunch, after which we’ll continue to Lake Manyara national park. Short stop at Mto wa Mbu for a picturesque view of the local market. Continue to Lake Manyara, game viewing as we enter the park. Tree climbing lions are one of the main attractions here.

Day 7: Lake Manyara / Ngorongoro

After breakfast, depart for the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, arriving in time for lunch at lodge. A four-wheel drive vehicle will take you 670 meters down to the crater floor for game viewing. Known as “Africa’s Garden of Eden”, these 160 km2 of plains, wooded slopes and small lakes offer a wide variety of game. The lakeshores are largely occupied by flamingos as well as hippos.

Day 8: Ngorongoro / Serengeti

After breakfast we proceed to Serengeti, game spotting as we enter the park. There is a spectacular concentration of game here, including the Big Five (elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo). The park is also noted for the massive migration to Masai Mara of wildebeest and zebra.

Day 9: Serengeti / Arusha

Morning game drive in the park, then depart for Arusha town.

Day 10: Arusha / Taveta – Tsavo West

After breakfast, back over the Kenya – Tanzania border of Taveta and proceed to Tsavo National Park, the largest in Kenya. This park is divided into two, East and West by the Mombasa / Nairobi highway. Check in and lunch at lodge. Afternoon game drive.

Day 11: Tsavo West / Tsavo East

After breakfast, Tsavo East, arriving at lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, game viewing, looking out for lions, buffalos, cheetahs, giraffes, gerenuks, gazelles and large herds of elephant.

Day 12: Tsavo East / Mombasa

Early morning game drive in the park before breakfast to watch the predators on the hunt and other animals as they drink at the water holes. After breakfast we leave for Mombasa, game viewing en route. Arrival at our coastal resort in the late afternoon ready for a few days of rest and relaxation.

Day 13 – 14: Mombasa

Two full days on the coast, where optional excursions include: Mombasa city tour, one day to historic Malindi including Gede ruins, village tour to see how the locals live, a romantic evening Dhow cruise with dinner and music on board, Son et Lumiere at the historic Fort Jesus, etc.

Day 15: Mombasa / Airport

Transfer to Mombasa international airport.
